Prayer Corner

One thing we want to do as a body as well is to pray for one another.  If you have prayer concerns please share with the church office so we can join together in praying for you.  Please pray for the following of our family, especially who are going through health issues:  Eric and Mary Singleton, as Eric continues to heal from his surgery, Sandra and George Rashed, as Sandra continues to recuperate from her fall earlier in the summer.  Please keep Craig and Sara Townsend in your prayers.  Pray for Raymond & Evangeline Inness on the death of their son Andrew O’Regan. Please continue to pray for our students who have started back to universities, colleges and public schools after the summer break.  Pray for the Lord’s protection on their minds as they learn and interact with other students.  Pray for Sunday Night Central as it kicks off this month, that hearts will be open and that lives will be changed by this ministry.

Congratulations to Kristen and Phil Breedon on the birth of Connor Breedon on September 15th weighing 8lbs 8oz.  Congratulations to the proud grandparents Bobby and Liz Kenny as well!!!

Behold, children are a gift of the LORD”.  Psalm 127:3

Best wishes go out to Thayne Campbell and his band English Words, which include Island Boys:  Aaron Crane, Ryan Crane, Todd MacLean and Andrew Murray, on their new CD release Red Potion,    and their upcoming tour to Montreal, Ontario and Nova Scotia.

Sunday Night Central is a place for real people to worship together in a relevant way in a relaxed atmosphere.  Looking forward to seeing you there!!

Vida Cass has written some things that she has learned in her long life and we thank her for sharing with us:

“You saw me before I was born. Everyday of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” Ps. 139:16 (Jesus Bible)

I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth but surely from the time of my birth to my old age I have been extremely blessed. Looking back now I see many of the ways God’s plans for my life involved so many other people – my parents, leaders, friends, even government officials, as well as numerous supporting congregations, but most of all how Central Christian Church enabled me to prepare and serve our Lord.

My growing up years were filled with numerous opportunities to be molded into the person God must have had in mind for the forty years of missionary service in six different countries. I assure you that every day was not a “blast” but never once did I doubt the Lord’s plan for my life. It all has been a tremendous 82 years – and yes, I would do it all over again without hesitating, if the Lord so desired.

How can one ever fear or question the uncertainties we face daily, whether in our youth or old age, at home or in a foreign country for surely he has promised: “He will cover you with his feathers and under his wings you will find refuge.   Ps. 91:4 (NIV)

I share this article with you and pray that this would be our church at Central.  How amazing it would be to be a part of something like this.  Good things are happening at Central, but may we not only be horizontal, but a VERTICAL CHURCH!!

Signs of a Vertical Church

James MacDonald – Senior Pastor – Harvest Bible ChapelNow to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. —Ephesians 3:20-21
Whether it’s two or three “gathered in My name”(Matthew 18:20), a crowd of thousands in deafening worship, or a persecuted remnant in some apparently forgotten corner of the world, if it’s Vertical—it’s true church. If it isn’t Vertical, if it isn’t obviously God, we should not be allowed to call it church, and everyone should leave immediately. Is your church Vertical?     The ultimate sign of a Vertical Church is the glory of God. Is He receiving glory? Is His glory apparent in the life of that church? In today’s verse, Paul points to Jesus and His church as the sources from which glory that comes from God is reflected back to Him!

I can honestly say I worship with thousands of people every weekend who can’t wait, who storm the lot, line up outside the doors, run down the aisles to sit up front, because they know God is going to meet with them, and they will be wonderfully impacted by His presence. I want church to be like that for you, more profoundly and more often. My desire is that you would begin to count the days until you get to go to church again, and be with a room full of people who feel the same. I want you to wake up on Sundays and leap out of bed because it’s your favorite day of the week. My heart is that your palms would get sweaty and your heart would beat faster because you knew God was waiting to meet with you and those you love most in the entire world. I want you to laugh and cry and shout and kneel at church. I long for you to have your soul fed, and your mind exploded and your will convicted and your heart connected to others and be massively encouraged. That’s what happens every week in Vertical Church or we die trying and call special prayer meetings to fix the problems so it can happen afresh. I want that for you, so be sure you want it too because this article will obliterate the possibility of ever settling for less again. You don’t have to accept part of what church is supposed to be. You really can have it all, from the hand of God Himself.

For reflection and discussion:

What signs of verticality do I see in the church I attend?

How do I see my own role in honoring and pursuing Vertical Church where I worship?

******See you next month and remember to keep us posted on any “news” in your world. ******

We are inquiring minds and we want to know……Take care and God Bless!
